Best. Day. Ever!

21,000 people entered to win 300 red carpet bleacher tickers to the Oscars. We won four of them!!!

Our arrival time was 9am. Up until 11am local and international news outlets had the red carpet. We were filmed a lot, especially by a New Zealand TV station - some great kids from New Zealand were sitting in front of us.

After 11, primary Oscar coverage moved in. Mary Hart from ET filmed clips for the following days' broadcast. Her cue cards seemed to indicate they already know who the winners were. She was a total sweetheart with us, the bleacher creatures.

Then it started to get crazy as the Oscar audience entered. Some Academy big-wigs carrying the awards entered. And entered... And entered. Beverley had the most appropriate comment, "nothing in this town happens just once."

Most of the big stars were good sports for us. George Clooney jumped over the ropes to sign autographs and we were trampled by women. Seriously, a girl stepped on Ian.

I found the scene of "the scene" most interesting. If you're not there, you don't get a sense of the chaos.

There were so many stars and faces of people you know (but cannot name), it was overwhelming. We have a ton of pictures of famous people, but frankly, there are better pictures from the other side of the carpet. And if you look closely at some of those, you can see us!

Ian was unimpressed. It was a long day for him.

Afterwords we were invited to El Capitan theater where we were fed, Kodak took our pictures, and we got to watch the Oscars on the big screen.

Whoever was responsible for the bleacher audience was first rate. Beverley and I were movie extras before and based upon that experience, were prepared for the worst. Instead, we were treated like valued guests. We were well fed, given gifts, and the staff was great with our children. Security took Morgen and Ian where the rest of us were not allowed (and believe me, security was intense - snipers were on every building).

California.
