If we don't have a big hike planned, we will fall back to Laguna Wilderness Park. The important thing is to "just do it".
Last weekend we hiked to one of the few natural lakes in the area. It was an ugly lake, but has great history. Decades ago, a hippo named Bubbles escaped from some zoo, and hid in that lake for weeks. One night it came out, they shot it with a tranquiler, and it died from a heart attack.
Just imagine stumbling upon a hippo in SoCal.
We took a wrong turn and instead of hiking the ridge line, found ourselves on the overgrown path less traveled. I acted brave walking up front, but was dead afraid of running into rattlesnakes. From what I gather, the trick is to make sure they know you're coming so they can start rattling. Sadly that means ninja hiking is out.
